The Bergen County Office of Mosquito & Vector Control has detected West Nile virus in mosquitoes collected during routine surveillance near Davis Drive, Monroe Court, and Van Saun Park in River Edge. Findings of this nature occur periodically throughout the region during the summer months and serve as early indicators that allow the County to take proactive measures to reduce local mosquito populations. This type of detection does not necessarily indicate an immediate public health threat, but rather helps the County pinpoint areas where targeted, preventive action is most effective.

While mosquito‑control treatments are traditionally conducted in the early morning, current research indicates that spraying 2–3 hours after dusk may provide greater effectiveness in targeting the mosquito species associated with West Nile virus. To ensure we are using the most effective methods to protect the health and well‑being of our residents, we plan to conduct a targeted mosquito‑control treatment on Thursday, July 30 (rain date 7/31), between 10:00 PM and 11:59 PM. Please make sure your windows are closed during this period.
