***September 26th., 2024 - UPDATE: Open Letter to Residents
Re: PSE&G and Roads
After two more meetings with PSE&G and its contractor, Tilcon, please note the following updates:
Milling is now scheduled to begin on October 3rd, weather permitting. Also, please know that paving will follow along soon after milling, weather permitting.
Bogert Road from Howland north to Windsor will be milled and paved, that is in front of Cherry Hill School. (I have reached out to both the superintendent and board president about this, and they know that our police department will keep this in the loop.) Tilcon and PSE&G will make every effort to pave on Columbus Day, Monday, October 14th. October 14th is the target date since there is no school for students that day. HOWEVER, this is dependent upon weather. Tilcon can not pave if there is rain. Thus, if weather prevents Tilcon from paving on the 14th, another day will be, by necessity, the paving day. Regardless, our amazing police department will be there to coordinate and manage the road closures and detours.
Finally, please know the entire project will continue for at least three weeks.***
Below please find a truncated and revised version of my previous letter:
PSE&G is finishing up phase one of the high pressure gas line improvements as part of a “hardening” of our infrastructure. This improvement, which is happening statewide, is paid for by state and federal grants in order to update very dated infrastructure.
According to PSE&G, the TENTATIVE plan so far is to mill and pave the streets that have been opened for this phase of the improvement starting on or about October 3rd and will continue for at least three weeks. The roads that will be paved and improved are part of phase one which is north of Howland Ave to south of Manning Ave from 5th Ave to Kinderkamack Road. Please see the attached map for context.
On the map, you will notice that Fifth Ave, Elm Ave and Bogert Road are either in another color or no color. These three streets are scheduled to be paved in 2025, and not during this construction period. However, paving will occur on a portion of Bogert Road which is in the green color.
By its very nature, this project will be disruptive to travel and streets for at least three weeks during this calendar year. The contractor for PSE&G, Tilcon, will be contacting residents regarding exact work dates and you will get notice of street closures. They are coordinating with our police department as well.
Please know that PSE&G does NOT work for the town. They work for the state, and as such, we have limited authority in this regard; however, we continue to closely monitor its progress and satisfactory conclusion.
***Also, the DPW will be working with the contractor to ensure leave cleanup is not affected in the highlighted locations.
