PERMITS ARE REQUIRED PRIOR TO ANY WORK BEING STARTED

Permits are issued Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm. If you are building, remodeling, or adding onto your house or business, it must be done in accordance with the New Jersey State Uniform Construction Code. Under the Uniform Construction Code. Permits are required before you begin construction.  Permits are required for, but not limited to, the following:
New construction, additions, alterations, replacing or installing a hot water heater, furnace/boiler, installing central air conditioning, decks, roofs, pools, siding, driveways, fences, bath and kitchen remodeling.

ZONING REVIEW AND APPROVAL IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO BUILDING PERMITS BEING SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW - NO EXCEPTIONS

For zoning review, a copy of your property's survey or architectural plans to scale must be submitted at time of application showing exact dimensions of work to be done.

Contractors are required to register with the State of New Jersey.
Applications and forms can be obtained by calling the Consumer Affairs Department at (888) 656-6225. Proof of registration is required prior to the issuance of any permit.
 

ALL RENTALS OF 1 & 2 FAMILY OR ATTACHED SINGLE FAMILY STRUCTURESREQUIRE AN INSPECTION BY THE FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU                                   

ALL RENTALS RQUIRE A CERTIFICATE OF SMOKE ALARM, CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM AND PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER COMPLIANCE AS PER N.J. UNIFORM FIRE CODE 5:70-2.3. 

THE PROPERTY OWNER MUST CALL THE RIVER EDGE FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT (201) 599-6323.  A $35.00 FEE IS REQUIRED FOR THE INSPECTION. 

Please be advised there is a high volume of applications in review at all times. The Office Staff will contact you when your application is out of review and ready for pick up.
