The River Edge Volunteer Ambulance Service is also part of The New Jersey State First Aid Council 18th District. The state council serves both as the oversight agency for volunteer squads in New Jersey, setting standards for equipment and training, and as the lobbying and liason organization between the State of New Jersey and the volunteer squads within it. The Council is responsible for the networking among squads and the mobilizing ambulances in Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI's) The Mission Statement of the Council states:

"The object and purpose of this organization shall be to bring together members of First Aid and Rescue Squads in order to discuss methods of betterment for the ambulance service, the reduction of the loss of life, the development of a better service through an education program, and to foster a spirit of harmony and friendship among the various non profit squads."
