A.E.D. (Automated Electronic Defibrillator)
The River Edge Police Department has four A.E.D. units which are carried in the patrol cars of on-duty officers. All patrol officers have passed a training course in the use of the A.E.D. The units can many times mean the difference between life and death for a heart attack victim. With police officers often being the first emergency personnel on the scene, it allows a defibrillator to be used within the first few minutes after the victim has suffered a heart attack. This is the time frame when defibrillation is most effective.
